Strandhill bowed out of this year’s Pierce Purcell Shield with defeat at the hands of local rivals Castledargan Golf Club. Gerry Fox’s charges took two points from the home legs of the match which was played on Saturday afternoon but just couldn’t manage to secure the point against the head at Castledargan that would have seen them through to the next round. Commiserations to all involved, and thanks for the efforts of all panellists.

Our interest in this year’s Jimmy Bruen shield came to an end with a comprehensive defeat at the hands of local rivals County Sligo. Team Captain Gerry Kilbride would like to thank all players and panellists for their sterling efforts during trials, practice sessions and matches over the past two months. It certainly wasn’t lack of effort that was our undoing.

Gerry Kilbride’s men go into action on Monday 11th May in the first round of the Jimmy Bruen shield. The opposition on the night will be near neighbours Castledargan Golf Club, withh two matches to be played in Castledargan and three at home in Strandhill. Proceedings get under way at 4.45 pm and we would urge as many members as possible to  attend and lend support. Support for our boys playing away is especially welcome and it’s not always as convenient to travel to an away match as it is in this case, so please take advantage.
