Saturday 25th Bill Curley Memorial sponsored by Clifford Electrical.

Congratulations to Adrian Wynne who scored his second win of the season with a blistering 66 which included five birdies. This win takes Adrian’s handicap to -1, recipe an outstanding achievement for a golfer no longer recognized as a youngster! Despite his heroics one could see Adrian as the villain, order as his great score thwarted by the narrowest of margins (countback) the great effort of Joe Curley to win the trophy named in memory of his late father. Bill Curley is still fondly remembered by a generation at Strandhill Golf Club as a great gentleman and a great clubman who almost single-handedly kept the club not merely afloat but flourishing in very diffficult times. Joe and his brothers have youth on their side and will no doubt be back next year challenging strongly in a competition which still attracts a large and competitive field. Thanks also to Clifford Electrical for their continued generous support of this competition.

Sunday 26th SuperValu Ballysadare

If Saturday was a day for the low handicappers then Sunday saw the higher category boys hit back. Matters were a little more clearcut here with Joe Feeney having a clear two point margin over evergreen John McGowan. The tighter spread of scores this weekend would suggest that the course is toughening up with the summer rough baring it’s teeth and making competitors earn their scores.
