Friday Open Stableford Competition

Last week’s Friday Open Stableford competition saw the winner again posting a score in the 40’s. Tommy O’Connor from Blacklion posted the winning score of 40 points and got his round off to a great start by scoring par and birdie on his first two holes. Tommy added another 8 pars to his round on his way to carding his score. Brian Leonard came second with a score of 40 points in a round of no less than 12 pars and back to back birdies on the par four fourth and par five fifth holes. Zbigniew Pikvl finished the day in third spot with a score of 37 points, ampoule continuing the trend of birdies on the day by sinking one on the par five fifth.

Embassy V Par

Saturday’s Embassy sponsored V Par competition saw some very close scoring between the top 10 players. Andy Leggett took first position with a fantastic score of 6 up in a round that contained 9 pars including 4 in a row from holes eight to eleven inclusive as wells a finishing his round with a par on the difficult 18th hole. Second place was taken by Mick Phelan with a score of 5 up. Mick was consistent throughout and carded no less than eleven pars on the way to signing for his score. Third place was taken by Stephen English, cost also on a score of 5 up. Stephen scored ten pars and 3 birdies over the course of his round and only lost out to Mick in second place by virtue of a countback.

Kennedy’s Bar 18 Hole Stableford

Sunday’s Kennedy’s Bar sponsored 18 hole stableford competition saw some exceptional scores being returned. Jimmy Kiernan was in fine form to post a score of 43 points in a round that included no less than 5 birdies including back to back birdies on the fourth and fifth holes. Mickey McTernan was next up in second place with a score of 41 points, information pills which, on any other day, would have been good enough to secure the win. Mickey signed for 8 pars and a birdie on the par five fifth for his round which included and impressive four pars in a row from holes ten to thirteen. Club Captain, Jim Branley continued his fine form of late to add a third place in this Sunday’s competition to his first place finish in the recent Jenning’s O’Donovan stableford competition. Jim scored 40 points in a round that included twelve pars and a birdie on the par 3 second.

Congratulations

A big congratulation to Captain Jim Branley who has seen his handicap fall from 11 to 6 in the space of two weeks. Jim had a first place finish in the Jenning’s O’Donovan stableford competition on Saturday September 20th and added a third place finish in this weeks Kennedy’s Bar stableford competition. If he continues in this vein of form, he will be a candidate for the Junior Cup.

Fiddler’s Creek 18 Hole Stableford

Thursday’s Fiddler’s Creek sponsored 18 hole Stableford saw Maeve Cosgrove take first place with a fantastic score of 40 points. Marian Quinn finished in second place on a score of 38pts while Therese Cosgrove and Eileen O’Connor, both finishing with scores of 36 points each finished in third and fourth places. Therese secured third place by virtue of a countback.

Eamonn’s Meats 18 Hole Stableford

Sunday’s Eamonn’s Meats sponsored 18 hole Stableford competition saw the top five competitors only separated by three points. Margaret Gerrity took first place with a score of 39 points, one point ahead of Brigid Glynn in second place with a score of 38 points. Elaine Coghill, who also carded a score of 38 points, finished in third place.

Ladies Winter League

It’s that time of year again. If you are interested in playing in this year’s Winter League, please put your pairings on the sheet in the upstairs locker room. If you don’t have a partner put your name up and it affords someone else who doesn’t have a partner the option to join you. Get your names up early as it gives us an idea of numbers to plan the format and the number of sections required. Non members welcome. Non members fee €70.
