Friday Open Stableford

Last week’s Friday Open Stableford competition was the epitome of an open competition as the top three finishers all hailed from three different clubs. Top of the list was Daniel Dolan from Tubbercurry with a score of 39 points. Daniel shot 7 pars and a birdie on the front nine and five pars and two birdies on the back nine to ensure victory.  Paul Crisham from Tuam was next up in second place with a score of 38 points. Paul was consistent throughout and carded no less than 8 pars. Third place was taken by Donal Bolger of Portmarnock, visit web also with a score 38 points. Donal shot six pars in a round that also included back-to-back birdies on the fourth and fifth holes.

Saturday Club Stableford Competition

Saturday’s Club Stableford Competition produced some impressive golf with scores creeping back into the 40’s yet again. Louis Cabena set the bar for the day with a score of 41 points by scoring ten pars in a row right from the off. He added another three pars and a birdie on the thirteenth hole on the way home to set his score. Paul Cox was one point back in second place on a score of 40 points. Four handicapper, Paul had an excellent round with no less than sixteen pars and a birdie on the difficult par four, fourth hole. Third place was taken by Mark Rooney Jnr with 38 points who continued the trend of birdies on the day by sinking putts on the par three second and par four fourteenth and adding eleven pars on top of them.

Scratch Cups

Sunday say the hosting of some of this year’s Scratch Cup competitions and with October now well and truly here so were the first of the wintry conditions. The scratch cups are based on gross strokeplay results with players split into different categories based on their handicaps.

Winter League

It’s that time of year again. The Strandhill Lodge and Suites Winter League will be getting underway at Strandhill Golf Club in the coming weeks and this year, we want to make it the biggest and best Winter League in a long time. This year’s competition is open to members and non members alike. We have posted sheets on the notice board in the men’s locker room for people to add their name. Please add your names to this list. If you don’t have a playing partner, add your name to the list and this will enable others without a partner to pair up.

Any players from other golf clubs interested in entering this year’s winter league can contact the golf shop on 071 9168188 to register their interest.

Junior Alliance

The very popular Junior Alliance commenced for the season on Thursday 2nd October with 83 players competing from 9 clubs. Best wishes to this year’s captain of the Alliance Margaret Rattigan. Special thanks to Lily Cunningham & Elsie Mannix once again for all their organisation.
