Men’s News

Friday Open Stableford

This week’s Friday Open Stableford competition again saw score creep into the 40’s as Liam McDermott from Bray took first place with 40 points. Liam score no less than ten pars, visit this site including 7 in a row from the ninth to the fifteenth holes respectively and an impressive birdie on the difficult par four 18th hole to sign for his score. Second place this week was taken by Gerry Fox with a score of 37 points. Gerry made eleven pars and two birdies on the par five first and par five fifth holes on his way to securing second place. Third place was taken by John McHugh with a score of 36 points. John remained consistent making seven pars during his round to sign for his score.

Saturday Club Stableford

Saturday’s club Stableford competition saw some excellent scores returned and a total of twelve players finishing with 36 points or better. First place was a very close fought affair with two players finishing with 41 points. Diarmuid Finan came out the eventual winner over Eamon Howley by virtue of a countback. Diarmuid was in fine form, scoring thirteen pars and a birdie on the par four third on the way to signing for his score. Eamon Howley took second place, also on a score 41 points in a round which included 8 pars including three in a row from the first to the third holes. Colm Martyn took third place with a score of 38 points. Colm made five pars, including one on the difficult closing hole and a birdie on the par three fourteenth hole.

Sunday Club Stableford

Sunday morning saw conditions that were the complete opposite of the previous Sunday’s wintry weather with glorious sunshine and little or no wind. Pat McManus took full advantage of the conditions to come out on top with 40 points scoring no less than eight pars. Pat also added a birdie on the par five fifth and an impressive eagle on the par four third hole. Frank Keaney and John McGowan both finished the day with 38 points but it was Frank that did enough to secure second place on countback. Frank made seven pars including three in a row from the first to the third holes to sign for his score. John McGowan took third place, also on a score of 38 points in a round that included six pars including four in a row from the par four sixth to the par three ninth.

Strandhill Lodge & Suites Winter League

It’s that time of year again. The Strandhill Lodge and Suites Winter League will be getting underway at Strandhill Golf Club on Sunday November 9th and this year, we want to make it the biggest and best Winter League for many years. This year’s competition is open to members and non members alike. An entry form has been posted on the notice board in the men’s locker room for people to add their name and anyone interested in entering can add their name and partners name to it. If you don’t have a playing partner, add your name to the list and this will enable others without a partner to pair up.

We are also delighted to extend entry to players from other golf clubs and interested players can register their entry in this year’s winter league by contacting the golf shop on 071 9168188. Entry for members is €50 and €80 for non members.

Ladies News

Texaco 18 Hole Stableford

Thursday’s Texaco sponsored 18 hole stableford competition saw some very close scores being returned. Marie Healy took first place  with a score of 35 points with Maura Butler taking second place on the same score. Marie took first place on countback. Siobhan Kelly took third place with a score of 34 points while Pat Mooney rounded out the top four place with a score of 33 points.

Strand Bar 18 Hole Stableford

Sunday’s Strand Bar sponsored 18 hole stableford competition again saw some very close scoring with only three points covering the top five places. Claire Gallagher took first place with a score of 34 points, one point ahead of Mary Golden in second place with a score of 33 points. Anne McNulty and Brona Galvin both finished the day with on a score of 31 points each but Anne took third place ahead of Brona in fourth place on a countback.
