Val Harte Perpetual Trophy

This year’s Val Harte Perpetual Trophy final promised to be an exciting affair and it lived up expectations as Peter McDonnell and Noel Tivnan squared up to each other. The format for the competition was 18 holes of matchplay play golf with Peter coming out the victor by a margin of 8 and 7.

Friday Open Stableford

This week’s Friday Open Stableford competition saw one of the best scores of the year winning the competition while the second and third place scores would have been good enough to win on any other day. Dean McGowan took first place with an exceptional score of 46 points in a round that included ten pars and no less than six birdies. Dean scored his birdies on the par five first, viagra par four third, search par five fifth, tadalafil par four eleventh, par three seventeenth and the par four eighteenth holes. Next up in second place was Seamus Kavanagh from Abbeyleix with a score of 39 points. Seamus scored six pars during his round including three in a row on the sixth, seventh and eighth holes. Third place was taken by Paddy Colleran from Tubbercurry with a score of 38 points.

Saturday Club Stableford Competition

Saturday’s Stableford competition was again a closely contested affair with only four points separating the top seven places. Desmond Bree came first with a score of 37 points only one point ahead of second and third place. Brendan O’Neill came second beating Louis Cabena in who finished in third place by virtue of a countback. Leo Logan finished in fourth place with 35 points.

Sunday Club Stableford Competition

Sunday’s Club Stableford Competition was played in difficult windy conditions again and but despite this some very good scores were returned. It ended up being yet another close affair with three points covering the top nine players. M D Cox was first with a score of 36 points in a round that saw him score nine pars and two birdies on the par five fifth and par four tenth holes. Second third and fourth places all came home with the same score of 35 points but it was Paul Cox who did enough to secure the runner-up spot. Paul’s round included ten pars as well as a birdie on the par four sixth and an impressive eagle on the par five fifth. Michael Phelan finished in third place with Francis O’Beirne finishing in fourth place, both with scores of 35 points each.

Strandhill Lodge & Suites Winter League

Strandhill Lodge & SuitesIt’s that time of year again. The Strandhill Lodge and Suites Winter League will be getting underway at Strandhill Golf Club on Sunday November 9th and this year, we want to make it the biggest and best Winter League for many years. This year’s competition is open to members and non members alike. An entry form has been posted on the notice board in the men’s locker room for people to add their name and anyone interested in entering can add their name and partners name to it. If you don’t have a playing partner, add your name to the list and this will enable others without a partner to pair up.

We are also delighted to extend entry to players from other golf clubs and interested players can register their entry in this year’s winter league by contacting the golf shop on 071 9168188. Entry for members is €50 and €80 for non members and the deadline for entry is this coming Friday, October 31st.

Presentation & Winter League Launch

There will be a presentation of all outstanding prizes for competitions run at the end of September and throughout the month of October this coming Friday night in the club bar with the launch of the Strandhill Lodge & Suites Winter League taking place immediately afterwards. We would ask that all players due to collect prizes, please turn up on the night and we would be delighted is we could get a good turn out of players taking part in this years Winter League also. Times for the event will be confirmed in the coming days and will be posted on our Facebook page at

Winter League

The closing date for the Diageo Winter League is Friday Oct 31st and the draw will take place Sunday evening at 5.30pm in the clubhouse. Could all players put their phone numbers on the entry sheet to allow us notify you if there are any cancellations due to adverse weather during the course of the competition. The Winter League starts Sunday Nov 9th. The notice board inside the back door to the lockers rooms will carry all Winter league information: Rules, draw, time sheet and any local rules that may arise throughout the competition. It is each players responsibility to check this notice board for all information relating the Winter League.

Hamper Baskets

If any members have empty hamper baskets could they leave them in the upstairs locker room. They would be greatly appreciated.
