Val Harte Cup Qualifying Strokeplay Competition

Saturday’s Val Harte Cup Qualifying Strokeplay Competition was played in similar conditions to Friday’s competition but with little or no wind to contend with. The standard of golf played on the day was very high with the top three players only separated by three strokes. Joe recorded a total of seven pars over his 18 holes with four coming on the front nine and the remaining three coming on the back nine with a birdie on the par three ninth hole added for good measure. He could have actually finished two strokes better had it not been for an unfortunate out of bounds second shot on the final hole but 65 was good enough to secure victory.

Second place was taken by Fintan Monaghan, illness one stroke back with a score of 66 strokes. Fintan scored five pars over the course of his eighteen holes with four of them coming on the front nine including three-in-a-row from the second to the fourth hole inclusive and the remaining par coming on the back nine to complete a round of 66.

Third place was taken by Robert Kelly with a score of 68 strokes. Robert scored an impressive twelve pars over his round with five coming on the front nine and the remaining seven coming on the back nine. He also added two birdies, cheapest one on the par five fist hole and the second on the par four eighth hole to complete his score of 68.
