Midsummer Classic at Strandhill Golf Club

Friday Open Stableford

This weeks Friday Open Stableford threw up very challenging conditions in the form of strong winds and showers but despite this some good scores were returned. First to fifth places were only separated by 2 points with first and second places actually posting the same score of 35 points. It was Eamonn McCafferty who prevailed and took first place with his score of 35 points. Eamonn clocked up a total of seven pars over his round, approved three on the front nine and the remaining four on the back nine including back to back pars on the par three seventeenth and the difficult par four eighteenth holes to enable him to sign for his score.

Second place was taken by Rory O’Connor, information pills also with a score of 35 points. Rory had an excellent round of golf despite the conditions where he managed to score no less than eleven pars as well as adding three birdies on the par five fifth, par four eighth and par three seventeenth holes respectfully on the way to signing for his score of 35 points.

Third place was taken by John O’Gara from Roscommon Golf Club with a score of 34 points. John scored three pars over the course of his round and also added a birdie on the par five fifth hole to ensure he signed for a score of 34 points.

Union Food Distributors 18 Hole Stableford

Union Food DistributorsSaturday’s Union Foods Distributors sponsored 18 Hole Stableford competition was played in similar weather conditions to Friday with strong winds and showers making scoring difficult. Declan Rooney added to his second place finish in last Saturday’s Whiteside’s SuperValu 18 Hole Stableford competition by taking first place with a score of 36 points. With nine pars including four-in-a-row on the front nine and five on the back nine while also adding two birdies, one on the par three ninth and the second on the par four fifteenth to make sure he signed for his winning score of 36 points.

Second place was taken by Jim Glynn with a score of 33 points. Jim scored a total of seven pars, three on the front nine and the remaining five on the back nine including four-in-a-row from the fourtennth to the seventeenth holes respectively to complete his round with 33 points.

Third place was taken by Noel Dykes, also with a score of 33 points in a round that saw him notch up three pars on the back nine while also adding a birdie on the par five fifth hole to ensure he took third place.

Armstrong Autobody 18 Hole V Par

Armstrong Auto Body, SligoSunday’s Armstrong Autobody sponsored 18 Hole V Par competition was played in contrasting conditions from the previous two days with light winds and glorious sunshine the order of the day.

First place was taken by Eddie Rush with a score of 4 up. Second place was taken by Louis Cabena with a shore of 3 up while Jimmy Noone was the top of the pile of a host of player who finished with a score of 2 up to take third place.

Captain’s Day

2015 Mens Captain, Michael PhelanCaptain Michael Phelan’s Captains Day will take place on Saturday June 20th. Please contact the golf shop to reserve your place. Your name will be drawn within the hour you have chosen to play.

The format will be the same as previous years with an 18 hole strokeplay competition and a nine hole play off in the evening for the top qualifiers. Players MUST have played in a minimum of three qualifying competitions in the current calendar year before Captain’s Day in order to be eligible to win the Captain’s Prize.

Michael would love to see as many people as possible come out and support him on his Captain’s Day. As always, it promises to be a great day and evening with music and lots of craic.

Midsummer Classic 18 Hole Scramble

We will be running a Midsummer Classic 18 Hole Open Scramble Competition followed by a BBQ and music by Dean Mahon & friends on Sunday, June 28th 2015. The competition is open to teams of four of any combination and entry is €120 per team.

There will be thousands of euros worth of prizes on offer including golf buggies for a hole in one, golf gear, electronic devices, weekend breaks, meal vouchers and much much more. There will also be prizes for the longest drive, closest to the pin as well as a special prize of €100 for the best team selfie posted to our Facebook page on the day. It’s guaranteed to be a great day and night out so be sure to enter your team early to avoid disappointment.

Social Mixed Scramble & BBQ

A very enjoyable Social Mixed Scramble & BBQ took place on Sunday 31st May with 21 teams participating. Thank you to everyone who took part and supported Captain Michael and Lady Captain Gráinne in this event. John Lenehan provided the music followed by the Presentation.

Our thanks to our sponsors Homeland? and Tom Kearney of Quality Meats who supplied the burgers. Thank you also to Derek and his team for organising the food and David Lindsay for constructing a state of the art BBQ for the club to use going forward.
