Friday Open Stableford

This week’s Friday Open Stableford competition was played in glorious sunshine and with the course in fantastic condition, pilule some excellent scores were returned. It was a closely fought affair with the top ten places only separated by three points and only two points between first and third. Joe Tuffy made it win number three for the year, side effects adding to his wins in February and May with a score of 41 points in Friday’s competition. Joe notched up a total of twelve pars over the course of his round with seven on the front nine including four-in-a-row from the first to the fourth hole and the remaining five on the back nine which also included four-in-a-row from the eleventh to the fifteenth holes on the way to signing for 41 points. Needless to say, the knife was mercilessly wielded and applied to his handicap immediately after.

Second place was taken by Mark Gerrity, one point behind, with a score of 40 points. Mark put together a round that included a total of nine pars with three coming on the front nine and the remaining six coming on the back nine, notching up five in a row along the way from the eighth to the twelfth hole. Mark also added a birdie on the par four third hole to put the icing on the cake for a round of 40 points.

A total of five players were in contention for third place with scores of 39 points but It was Ciaran Ryan who did enough to take the final spot among the prizes. Ciaran scored a total of seven pars during his round with three on the front nine and the remaining four-in-a-row on the back nine while also adding a birdie on the par four sixteenth hole on the way to signing for his score of 39 points.

Sean Conlon / Padraig Tuffy Competition SponsorsSaturday’s Sean Conlon & Padraig Tuffy sponsored 18 hole strokeplay competition was played in similar conditions to Friday’s competition and this was reflected in the scores that were returned. Scoring was extremely close yet again with the top three finishers returning the same score. Tristan Probst came out on top and took first place with his score 68 strokes, managing a total of ten pars spread equally between the front and back nine, including four-in-a-row from the seventh to the eleventh holes. Tristan also added birdies on the par four third and par four thirteenth holes to ensure he signed for his score of 68 nett.

Second place was taken by Pat Thornton also with a score of 68. Pat scored a total of six pars over the course of his round with four of them coming on the front nine and the remaining two coming on the back nine, scoring back to back pars on the second and third holes as well as the ninth and tenth holes to complete his round of 68 nett.

Third place was taken by Henry Parke, also with a score of 68. Henry was the measure of consistency throughout his round scoring four pars on the front nine and maintaining his score on the back nine to enter the clubhouse with a score of 68 nett.

Clifford Electric Bill Curley Cup 18 Hole Stableford

Clifford Electrical WholesalerThe good weather continued for this year’s Clifford Electric sponsored Bill Curley Cup as it turned out to be a battle of the “Pat’s”. First place was taken by Pat McManus with a score of 40 points. Pat got his round off to the perfect start by scoring back-to-back birdies on the first and second holes while adding a third birdie on the par four eleventh. Adding five pars over the course of his round including three-in-a-row on the final three holes, Pat enter the clubhouse with a winning score of 40 points.

Second place was taken by Pat Corcoran, two points behind the winner with a score of 38 points. Pat was steady throughout his round, adding four pars on the front nine and a further two on the back nine for a total of six pars, which was enough to secure second place.

Third place was taken by Pat Doherty, also with a score of 38 points. Pat got his round of to an ideal start by recording pars on the opening four holes and closing out the front nine with two more. Three further pars on the back nine ensured that Pat did enough to finish take third place with his score of 38 points.

Sligo Cancer Support Centre Annual Golf Fundraiser

The Sligo Cancer Support Centre Annual Golf Fundraiser was held at Co. Sligo Golf Club recently and there was a large entry of 47 teams. This years winners were from Strandhill Golf Club under the captaincy of Robbie Henneberry. The team of Robbie Henneberry, David Lindsay, Peter McDonell and Joe Hanney had a great score of 89 points in some very challenging windy conditions to take first place. Congratulations to all involved.

Captain’s Day

2015 Mens Captain, Michael PhelanCaptain Michael Phelan’s Captains Day will take place this coming Saturday, June 20th. Please contact the golf shop to reserve your place. Your name will be drawn within the hour you have chosen to play.

The format will be the same as previous years with an 18 hole strokeplay competition and a nine hole play off in the evening for the top qualifiers. Players MUST have their membership fee paid up to date in order to enter and have played in a minimum of three qualifying competitions in the current calendar year before Captain’s Day and in order to be eligible to win the Captain’s Prize. Entry is €10.

Michael would love to see as many people as possible come out and support him on his Captain’s Day. As always, it promises to be a great day and evening with music and lots of craic.

The day will begin with mass in the clubhouse at 8:30am. We will be doing a buffet in the evening at a cost of €10 per head, which will include a glass of wine and music will be provided by Hughie Lowry. Pints of Becks will be €3 all day. Please give your name in the bar or golf shop if you plan on attending so we can get an idea of numbers. All welcome.

Midsummer Classic at Strandhill Golf Club

Midsummer Classic 18 Hole Scramble

We will be running a Midsummer Classic 18 Hole Open Scramble Competition followed by a BBQ and music by Dean Mahon & friends on Sunday, June 28th 2015. The competition is open to teams of four of any combination and entry is €120 per team.

There will be thousands of euros worth of prizes on offer including golf buggies for a hole in one, golf gear, electronic devices, weekend breaks, meal vouchers and much much more. There will also be prizes for the longest drive, closest to the pin as well as a special prize of €100 for the best team selfie posted to our Facebook page on the day. It’s guaranteed to be a great day and night out so be sure to enter your team early to avoid disappointment.

Junior Golf Volunteers Required

The Junior Conveners are looking for volunteers to come along on Tuesday evenings between 7 and 8:15pm and assist with the Junior Golf Programme.
