Friday Open Stableford

This week’s Friday Open Stableford was played in dry and gusty conditions and players battled their way through 18 tough holes to post their respective scores. It was Pat Lee who took first place with an excellent score of 37 points in the tough conditions. Pat managed a total of twelve pars, visit web seven on the front nine and the remaining five on the back nine while also adding a birdie on the par four eight holes to sign for his score of 37 points.

Second place was taken by Mark Rooney who followed on from his first place finish two weeks ago with a score of 36 points. Mark scored a total of nine pars with four coming on the front nine and the remaining five coming on the back nine while also adding three birdies on the par three second, sick par five fifth and par four twelfth on the way to securing second place.

Third place was taken by Jimmy Noone with a score of 35 points. Jimmy notched up a total of seven pars with four on the front nine including three in a row from the fourth to the sixth holes respectfully and the remaining three coming on the back nine to close out his round with a score of 35 points.

Sligo Park Hotel Stableford

Saturday’s Sligo Park Hotel sponsored 18 Hole Stableford Competition saw the strong winds continue from Friday, information pills making scoring difficult. Scoring was close at the top with two players fighting it out for first place. Ronnie Doyle took first place with a score of 37 points in a round that saw him score a total of five pars, three on the front nine and the remaining two on the back nine. He also added a birdie on the par four eight hole to ensure he enter the clubhouse with a round of 37 points.

Second place was taken by Enda Halloran, also with a score of 37 points. Enda scored five pars, three on the front nine and the remaining two on the back nine and adding back to back birdies on the par five fifth and par four sixth holes respectfully on the way to signing for his score of 37 points.

Third place was taken by Pat Thornton with a score of 36 points. Pat scored three pars on the front nine and added a birdie on the par five fifth hole on his way to securing third place with a score of 36 points.

President’s Day – Mrs Mary Coyle

Sunday saw the staging of President Mary Coyle’s Presidents day in conditions that had everything from heavy showers, thunder & lightening wind and glorious sunshine and that was just the morning. The weather improved dramatically in the afternoon but the earlier conditions didn’t really play a major part as good scores were being returned by both men and ladies from early morning. The President’s Prize had to go to the back nine as Robbie Henneberry and Martin Donohue both returned scores of 63 nett. It was Martin Donohue who won out on a countback to take the Presidents Prize. Robbie Henneberry took first place in the men’s with a score of 63, while Donie McGowan took second place with a score of 67 nett. Third place was taken by Pat Lee, also with a score of 67 nett. Adrian Wynne took the prize for the lowest gross with a score of 73.

Marie Rooney took first place in the ladies with a score of 67 nett, while Caroline Peacock took second place with a score of 68 nett. Third place was taken by Therese Cosgrove with a score of 70 nett. Grainne won the prize for lowest gross with a score of 84.

The Seniors made the best of the good weather on Wednesday to return some exceptional scores for this month’s Senior Open Stableford with the entire top ten shooting scores that would be good enough to win any competition. John Finan set the standard for the day by returning an outstanding score of 46 points with a round that included six pars, two on the front nine and the remaining four on the back nine while also finding the hole in three for a birdie on the par four sixth hole.

Second place was taken by Martin O’Hara with an excellent score of 42 points. Martin scored a total of eleven pars, six on the front nine and five on the back nine including five-in-a-row twice while also adding birdies on the first and fifteenth holes to complete his round with a score of 42 points.

Third place was taken by John McHugh, also with a score of 42 points. John notched up a total of nine pars, five on the front nine and four on the back nine while also adding a birdie on the par four third hole to complete his round with a score of 42 points.

Not to be left out, Eugene Gilligan made this week’s Senior Open one to remember by scoring a hole-in-one on the par three second hole. Congratulations Eugene.

Please note Senior 10 Hole stableford comp for Marion Coyne will run on Thursday 9th and on Sunday 12th. Our annual Marion Coyne Trophy in aid of ‘Young Sligo for Leukaemia’ will be played for on Sunday 12th July. Could I ask as many of you as possible to support this very worthy event and Mary Coyne will present the prizes on Sunday evening at approx. 7pm. The presentation of prizes for the following will also be made on that evening – Breeogue Pottery, The Embassy, Horans Pharmacy, Radisson Blu and all the Senior 10 Hole comps – could all prizewinners in those competitions please attend – list of prizewinners will issue later in the week and will be displayed beside the computer.

We will be restarting our Junior Golf Program again for the year next Tuesday, July 14th at 6:30pm. The program will consist of a nine week schedule, the first three of which will be golf lessons with PGA Professional, Keith O’Neill followed by three weeks of skills lessons including tee shots, pitching, chipping and putting followed by three weeks of competitions and fun and games.
Registration costs €99, including membership for 1 year and is open to boys and girls of all ages and we will provide all of the equipment.
