Friday Open Stableford

This week’s Friday Open Stableford was played in changeable conditions and it took a great score of 39 points to secure victory for Mick Cahill. Mick scored a total of five pars over the course of his 18 holes, adiposity three on the front nine and the remaining two on the back nine and also added two birdies, one on the par five first and the second on the par four eleventh to ensure he did enough to take first place.

Mark Rooney continued his recent good run of results by coming home in second place with a score of 38 points. Mark scored a total of eight pars, distributed equally between the front and back nine’s and also added birdies on the par five first, par five fifth, par four tenth and par three thirteenth to secure second place.

Third place was taken by Mark Wehrly with a score of 36 points. Mark scored a total of seven pars over his eighteen holes with four on the front nine and three on the back nine while also adding five birdies on the first, fifth , seventh, eleventh and difficult eighteenth to close out his round with 36 points.

Colm Martyn Garden Services & Landscaping Saturday’s Colm Martyn Landscaping 18 Hole Stableford was played in very changeable conditions with persistent rain making scoring difficult from midday until early afternoon. It was Gerry Fox who took first place with his score of 38 points in a round that consisted of ten pars, four on the front nine and six on the back nine while also adding birdies on the first, fifth and eighth holes to sign for his score of 38 points.

Second place was taken by Tony Mannion with an excellent score of 37 points. Tony scored a total of five pars over the course of his eighteen holes, four of them on the front nine and the remaining one on the back nine to enter the clubhouse with a score of 37 points and second place.

Third place was taken by Gerard Fitzpatrick with a score of 36 points. Gerard scord a total of four pars over his eighteen holes with three coming on the front nine and the remaining par coming on the back nine. He also added two birdies on the par four eleventh and par four thirteenth holes to score 36 points.

JF Hanley GroundcareSunday’s JF Hanley Groundcare sponsored 18 hole Stableford competition saw a vast improvement in the weather and this was reflected in the scores returned. First place was taken by Philip Osbourne with a score of 41 points. Mark scored nine pars over his eighteen holes with five coming on the front nine including four-in-a-row from the second to the fifth holes while the remaining four came on the back nine. He also added three birdies on the eighth, fifteenth and seventeenth holes to close out his round with 41 points.

Second place was taken by Martin Campion with a score of 40 points. Martin made a total of eight pars over his eighteen holes with five on the front nine and the remaining three on the back nine while also adding a birdie on the par three fourteenth to secure second place.

Third place was taken by Stephen English with a score of 38 points. Stephen managed a total of eleven pars, four on the front nine and the remaining seven on the back nine while also book-ending his front nine with birdies on the first and ninth holes to secure third place with a score of 38 points.

Lady Captain Grainne Hennebery Captain’s Day

Grainne Henneberry - Lady Captain 2015, Strandhill Golf ClubLady Captain Grainne Henneberry will hold her Captain’s Day on Saturday July 25th. The time sheet for the day is posted in the locker room and players can add their names to the sheet in their chosen hour and groups will be drawn within that hour. Details of the menu are also posted on the notice board. The format is 3 Ball Strokeplay.

Grainne would love to see as many people as possible come out and support her on her Captain’s Day. As always, it promises to be a great day and evening with music and lots of craic.

Lady Captain & Captain’s Prize to the Juniors

Lady Captain Grainne Henneberry & Captain Michael Phelan’s Prize to the Junior’s will take place on Tuesday 14th July from 7pm.

Junior Golf

We will be restarting our Junior Golf Program again for the year this Tuesday, July 14th at 6:30pm. The program will consist of a nine week schedule, the first three of which will be golf lessons for beginners with PGA Professional, Keith O’Neill starting on Tuesday 21st July, followed by three weeks of skills lessons including tee shots, pitching, chipping and putting followed by three weeks of competitions and fun and games.

Registration costs €99, including membership for 1 year and is open to boys and girls of all ages and we will provide all of the equipment.

Junior Golf at Strandhill Golf Club 2015

Volunteers Required

We are looking for volunteers for this coming Tuesday evening to help with the registration of new Junior golfers as well as assist on the course for the Captain’s Prizes for the Juniors. We ask that as many people as possible come along and help out in any way that they can. As anyone involved with the Junior coaching will tell you, it’s a fun and rewarding experience.

Open Week

This year’s Open Week starts on Sunday July 26th and runs until Monday August 3rd. Full details of the fixtures are available on the fixtures page of the club website.
