Strandhill Lodge & Suites Winter League – Week 9

Strandhill Lodge & Suites Winter League Final Date Changes

The Men’s Competition Committee have had to reschedule the final group matches for next Sunday, February 28th. All times that were booked for today have been re-booked for next Sunday and players can amend them should the need arise.

As February 28th was due to be the date for the first 18 holes of the Winter League Final, we have had to push the first 18 holes of the final to Sunday March 6th with the final 18 holes to be played on March 13th as normal.

As March 6th is Mothers Day, the starting time for the first 18 holes of the final will be brought forward to 8am with the qualifiers starting on the front nine while the non qualifiers will start their round on the back nine. This will allow for an earlier finish for Mothers Day.

Both qualifiers and non qualifiers will start their round on the front nine for the final 18 holes on March 13th.

Competition Sponsorship

It’s that time of the year where the men’s competition committee are starting to put together the competition fixtures and sponsors for the coming year. Sponsors play a vital role in the success of competitions at Strandhill Golf Club and without their continued support, we would be unable to offer the quality of competition that we’ve had in years past.

To that end, if there are any members who know of someone or indeed who would be interested in sponsoring a competition themselves at Strandhill Golf Club this year, you can speak to any member of the men’s committee.

Strandhill Golf Club Course Development

This week saw the commencement of work on phase one of the course development at Strandhill Golf Club. The first phase involves the restructuring of the bunkers on the course and the removal of bunkers that are superfluous. Work got underway on Monday on the bunker complex on the first hole with the two greenside bunkers to the left of the green being filled in and the surrounding area reshaped. Two new bunkers were added further back from the green with one of the existing bunkers being moved slightly right. Course architects, Ally McIntosh and James Coughlan pitched in with our own greenkeepers with James operating the digger and consulting with Ally on the changes to be made.

Changes were also made to the 17th hole with the addition of two new bunkers, one in front of the green and the other to the left, partially exposed from the rough. The bank that partially obscured the view from the tee was also reshaped to allow a full view of the hole.

Superfluous bunkers were also filled in on the 16th and the eight holes and there is a new greenside bunker already under construction to the right of the eighth green.

More bunker work will be carried out this coming week and some temporary greens may be in play on holes that are being worked on.
