The team working on the development

L to R – Stephen McGarrigle – Greenkeeper, Anthony Henry – Greenkeeper, Jason Kelly – Head Greenkeeper, Ally McIntosh – Golf Course Architect, James Coughlan – Golf Course Designer & Declan Kelly – Asst Head Greenkeeper.

Strandhill Golf Club Development

Strandhill Golf Club has begun a substantial re-development programme that should see the course become one of the best in the North-West of Ireland. One of the primary aims of the project is to bring more tourists in to the Sligo area as golfers realise that the county contains three highly rated links courses, all within easy reach of each other.

This initial phase has seen the re-bunkering of five existing holes which has transformed them both aesthetically and strategically, providing an improved experience for the club’s members and visitors alike. The 1st, 8th, 10th, 11th and 17th are the holes to undergo a makeover with the intent that the rest of the course receive a similar treatment over the coming twelve months.

The second phase of the design will see new holes introduced and is dependent on the club working closely with the relevant environmental bodies. This will ensure that the management plan for the impressive dune system that the course sits upon is handled with the utmost sensitivity to the local flora and fauna.

The work is being carried out under the supervision of course architect Ally McIntosh. Alongside him are his construction partner, James Coughlan and the Strandhill greens crew led by Jason Kelly.

Fairway’s Open

The fairways will open up and the competitions will go back to 18 hole format from this coming Friday, March 11th.

Easter Open Week

The week leading up to the Easter weekend will be an open week with 18 hole open stableford competitions being held every day from Monday, March 21st up to and including Easter Monday.  Tee times can be booked via the club website or by calling the golf shop on 071 91 68188.
