Strandhill Golf Club Open Week 2016

Strandhill Golf Club Open Week

Strandhill Golf Club Open Week runs from Sunday July 24th right through until Monday August 1st 2016. There will be daily open competitions sponsored by local businesses. All competitions are 18 hole stableford and are open to visitors with a GUI or ILGU handicap. Entry is €30 per round.

Bunker Complex Between 10th and 11th Holes

The newly developed bunker complex between the 10th an 11th holes is now open for play. There is still a small roped off area within this which is to be played as GUR (ground under repair) but the area around it and the bunkers are now in play.

2016 Membership

We are delighted to announce that applications for membership of Strandhill Golf Club for 2016 are now being taken. If you would like to join Strandhill Golf Club for the coming year and be part of a club famous for its warm welcome and friendly atmosphere, not to mention the top quality facilities and world famous course, contact John on 087 7752309 or call the club house on 071 9168188 for more details.

Course Development & 50/50 Draw

As you are aware, the first phase of the planned course development got underway early this year as the course bunker complex underwent dramatic changes with the addition of new bunkers and the removal of superfluous ones. This work was financed completely from money raised through the 50/50 draw as well as from donations.

It is hoped to continue the final part of the bunker work this coming October and in order to do this, we need you support. We are asking all of our members to help support the development by signing up for the monthly 50/50 draw. It only costs €8 per month and can be paid by monthly direct debit.

You can download and print off a copy of the direct debit form from here. The form can be completed and handed into the office or golf shop. Forms are also available from the office.

With your help, we can continue to climb the Top 100 Golf Course rankings and make Strandhill Golf Club the jewel in the crown of Sligo golf.

Jack O’Sullivan

Strandhill Golf Club played their first match in this year’s Jack O’Sullivan competition last Thursday night against Strokestown Golf Club in very cold and windy conditions. Strandhill were the away team and played three of their matches in Strokestown and two at home.

All of the matches were tight affairs both at home and away and both both home teams managed to win their games, one on sixteen and the second on eighteen while the final match in Strokestown had to go down the nineteenth hole to decide it. Strandhill won the deciding hole and progress to the next round which will most likely be against Ballinamore.

Well done to all involved and thanks to the brave souls who came out to cheer on the lads on the night.

Over 55’s Connacht Final Victory For Strandhill

Strandhill Golf Club took a 4 -1 lead from last week’s first leg at home  into the second leg of their final against Loughrea on Saturday. The second leg was played in Loughrea and Loughrea fought back to tie the match up by winning with a score of 4 -1. That meant that one pairing from each team had to go into a sudden death playoff for the match. Having won their game, Tom Crowley & Declan Rooney were the obvious choice and they didn’t disappoint as they closed out the match on the first playoff hole with a birdie from Declan Rooney.

This is a fantastic achievement from our over 55’s team who played impeccably throughout the competition to secure another title for Strandhill Golf Club.

Well done to Team Captain Declan McCabe and the team for their achievement. You did Strandhill Golf Club proud.

Course Development & 50/50 Draw

50/50 DrawAs you are aware, the first phase of the planned course development got underway early this year as the course bunker complex underwent dramatic changes with the addition of new bunkers and the removal of superfluous ones.
